Quality horses for the discerning amateur

At J & L Sporthorses, we understand that not everyone has the means to purchase or import an elite prospect. We have bred and raised beautiful, safe, people-oriented athletes for ourselves, and we want to do the same for you. We carefully select our mares and stallions with temperament being a high priority along with conformation, athleticism and rideability. We mainly use Warmblood and Saddlebred stock - we have found that the combination of the European Warmblood's proven ability with the Saddlebred's elegance, smooth gaits and tractable temperament makes for a truly unique and wonderful amateur sporthorse.

Please consult our Foals and Sales horses page to see what we have to offer. You can also visit our Broodmares' page or read more about our program in the "About Us" section.

Special thanks to C. Ritchie for all the lovely photos she's taken of our critters over the years!

Miscellaneous updates

July 2014: Sass-N-Flash, also known as "Sasha Fierce", showed at First Level for the first time and scored a very respectable 62% for 3rd place out of 7 riders. We are so proud of our little "broodmare"!

September 2013: Belmont showed in the Trillium Child/Adult 2'6" Hunters this summer and brought home lots of ribbons. Was a perfect gentleman every time out!

June 2011: Belmont's first 2 outings under saddle, at Intro level in Dressage, garnered a number of 2nd and 3rd place ribbons, as well as a Reserve Champion placing, with scores ranging from the low to mid-60's. He was a perfect gentleman and impressed everyone with his calm, willing & happy attitude at the tender age of 3!

May 2011: Sasha gave birth to a huge, beautiful & correct bay sabino filly by Balta'Czar! For more info on our newest addition, please visit the Foals/Sales page.

June 2010: Sass-N-Flash, aka Sasha Fierce, went to a Dressage show on May 30th and scored 68.33% at Intro (Test C). She went by herself, behaved beautifully and stood tied to the trailer like an old pro after her class. Looking forward to more shows like this, and next time she will go Training Level!

Feb 2010: Belmont was named Reserve Champion CSHA Yearling Colt/Gelding of 2009 in Ontario! This follows his previous award for Champion Weanling Colt/Gelding in 2008. We are very proud to have bred this fine young man!
